German Right-Wing Activist Applies for Asylum in the US Over Political Persecution

Prominent German right-wing activist Naomi Seibt announced she will apply for asylum in the United States because of what she describes as political persecution in Germany. Seibt, who has lived in the United States since 2024, wrote on X: “As a defender of free speech and a supporter of the Alternative for Germany party, I am the target of sophisticated surveillance and defamation by state media.”

The 24-year-old also claimed she had been threatened by the anti-fascist left-wing movement Antifa. She added, “The German government supports left-wing violence, covers up crimes committed by immigrants, and silences dissent through mass home raids.”

The far-right activist, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, stated that she was the first German to apply for asylum during President Donald Trump’s tenure. She further claimed that German state media were defaming President Trump due to his stance against illegal immigration. She added, “President Trump correctly identified Antifa as a terrorist organization, but at the same time, the German government is silently turning a blind eye to these assaults on its citizens.”

Seibt noted that her family in Germany had been harassed by “journalists working for state media” and that she had sought assistance from the German police after receiving threats from a left-wing group. However, the police refused to help, claiming she had not yet suffered any physical harm. She added, “While Europe has become a stronghold for tyranny, America still treats the right to free speech as sacred — and thankfully, for that.”

Seibt also spoke about German law that prohibits insulting politicians, particularly Section 188 of the German Penal Code, which imposes imprisonment and heavy fines for insulting politicians. She argued that this section is exploited by the left to bring lawsuits against ordinary citizens for expressing their opinions online about left-wing politicians.

She pointed out that in November 2024, the German police raided the home of a retired citizen and his disabled daughter because the man had online insinuated that Robert Habeck, a politician from the Green Party, was “a fool.” Seibt further claimed that the German government imposes strict restrictions on freedom of speech and expression online.
