The Federal Government announced that the number of politically motivated attacks, destruction of property and attacks on refugee shelters in Germany has increased since the beginning of the year.
At a time when the number of asylum applications is increasing, new shelters for refugees are being built in Germany. But attacks on refugee centers are hindering the efforts of the government, which announced during its response to the question of the left bloc in the Bundestag, the government revealed that during the first half of this year, there were approximately 80 crimes that were politically motivated, 74 out of these crimes are suspected of being perpetrated by the extreme right, while in the same period of the previous year, the police recorded 52 politically motivated crimes against refugee housing facilities.
The federal government also indicated in its response that 39 people (including four children) were injured during the attacks committed against asylum seekers and refugees during the second quarter of this year, according to “Amal, Berlin!” website.
The left in Germany demanded finding out the facts of the increase in attacks on refugee shelters, assaults, attacks, damage to property and physical attacks, compared to the previous year, according to the magazine “Der Spiegel”.
Clara Bonger, refugee policy spokeswoman for the left-wing bloc, said it was alarming that people seeking protection here often experienced violence, hostility and exclusion, accusing the AfD and Christian Democratic Union of paving the way for “racist mobilization” against refugees using a hostile rhetoric on the right to asylum.
Germany has become the top destination for asylum seekers in the recent period, after it reached half of the asylum applications of Syrians, Afghans and Turks submitted to Europe last May.
