German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced her intention to ban more pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel associations, during a parliamentary discussion session on protecting Jewish life in Germany.
Germany recently banned the Hamas movement and its Palestinian Samidoun network branch.
Faeser indicated that German democracy is defending itself, and added: “We are already working to impose more bans,” according to the “Amal, Berlin!” website.
She added that “Germany stands strongly with Israel.”
Arab countries and other Muslim-majority countries criticized Germany at the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday, November 9, for what they described as “partial restrictions imposed on pro-Palestinian demonstrations.”
Israel’s representative Adi Farjon praised “the steps taken by Germany, both nationally and multilaterally, to address the scourge of anti-Semitism.” Several countries criticized some of the measures taken in the name of combating anti-Semitism, especially the ban on pro-Palestinian protests.
Germany, European countries, and the United States classify “Hamas” as a terrorist movement.
German President Frank Walter Steinmeier called on people of Palestinian and Arab origins in Germany to clearly distance themselves from the Hamas movement, while former Chancellor Angela Merkel called for decisive action against anti-Semitism.
Massive demonstrations took place around the world to demand an end to the war in Gaza now and immediately after the killing of 12,000 Palestinians, most of whom were children and women, due to the Israeli bombing and siege.
Palestinians consider Hamas a resistance movement against the Israeli occupation, which refuses to implement multiple United Nations resolutions to withdraw from the Palestinian territories it has occupied since 1967.
